JOURNAL ENTRY / REVIEW OF THE SHOW
Due to this whole writers strike shenanigans thing going on, this show was such a relief to see. And ive decided to let everyone in on this night of firsts:: First night at the pit nyc, first time seeing bill doing something other than SNL or basically on TV
Well the pit is near Penn Station and its on this really sketchy street full of trash and scaffolding, sounds like normal NYC right? Well not really, this street was just - ew. Ok well you go up these stairs which are extremely narrow. They're painted red with THE PIT on them and stuff and the logo star. When you enter upon the lobby its all put together. Like the place where the cast or guests check in is the same place where we hang out and wait for the show to start. So Bill and Seth Meyers couldn't hide themselves from the public. The setting makes you feel like you're hanging out in someone's living room.
It was me, and zach, we checked in and there's internet access and three other guys were sitting on the couches on their macbooks and we just hung out. Zach made me open my christmas gift which ended up being this sweet ass turquoise blue sony cybershot, my other digital camera is a few years old and has turned itself into a pathetic little thing.
Well i was sitting there and i look up and the room is pretty empty, maybe 7 other people hanging out. It was around 7:30 and Seth Meyers was just chilling looking at the stuff on the wall, i was like "Thats .. I think, isnt that Seth Meyers" he heard me and approached me. We started talking about some strike stuff of course, normal, i know, but i really liked the questions i asked and the answers he gave me. It was cool to hear it from one who is a writer and an actor and is striking out there and has strong opinions about this stuff and i dont have to read some pissed off letter on huffington or wga websites, i can hear it from someone ive seen, someone i know, and someone who knows a lot about it. We started talking about UCB and ive always wondered if the cast of Asssscat got paid for doing those shows because its UCB's most popular show, the line goes so far back and so many people show up each week. He said no, its totally free for them to perform and my admiration for these people just went higher. To do so many things at one time, to perform every week and especially those days after a long week at SNL and doing the show for free - thats true art and true passion and dedication. I told him about my little high school work i did with improv and how i wanted to study at UCB in the spring.
He told me he got just got a text from Amy Poehler, he started texting as we talked and i asked if he was here for Bill, he said yes and he was meeting him here so he asked me if he came by already. I told him no. There was this small little room across from me and all these people piled in and Bill came through the crowd, i was texting on my phone when i looked up and he was standing over me. Seth had been taken in that little room earlier before bill arrived, i told him Seth was there in that room and someone approached him to take him inside. I sat up against the wall waiting for the room to empty a bit as the show was being seated, and Bill and Seth walked out when all of sudden Bill said to me "Have fuuuuuun!!" i responded, "Hey, you too!" and then he bends down a little and asks me "Do you know anything about comic books?" It was like asking a classmate for the answers before a test -- it was funny, i said "Aren't you supposed to, what about what you wrote on my site last year!"
We really lucked out with the seats. The Marvel Comics editorial crew were in the front row and there were two extra seats at the end that Zach and I got to have. So it was awesome. The entire theatre isnt big at all and neither is the part where the shows are held, its like a big stage with floor seats and it was probably 10 rows of 10 seats. Very, very small. The show was great and as seen in the video i made - it was like a talk show discussion group but it was VERY fun. I think i was the youngest in the audience and most of the audience were pretty much of the Male gender. I felt a little awkward being there. I think i was a little too young for the kind of comics they were talking about, not an immature way but the fact they brought up characters from the 80s like when Spiderman, Batman, Aquaman, and The Hulk were popular. So i didn't really get too many of their jokes, but i still found their topics and liners and closing out their sentences hilarious. I was mainly out there to see something new that Bill did other than my stalkings at SNL (cue laughter). But i did get more into comic books that day to be honest. But laughs came about and most jokes they made about each other or the way they said things i laughed at and i died when Bill did a Taun-Taun impression similar to his Conan routine in Feb. And he did Al Pacino and Peter Falk and gave some stories (see video) that were of my knowledge. Bill mentioned Warren Ellis which is what he wrote on the site last year under Bill's picks for one of his comic choices, which is another author one of the Marvel-men mentioned as well.
After the show i was packing up my stuff and Zach had approached Bill on stage as well as other fans approached the guests up there and everyone conversed like a house party style. I didn't know id be talking to bill after the show, i didnt expect it. But before i could get in Bill's direct contact he approached me half way and thanked me over for coming out to the show to which i naturally responded, "Are you kidding? Of course, i found out and immediately i got them from him, i was freaking out." We talked about other things and headed out as someone asked for his autograph on the inside of some book that day to
So i had a great time, and i wish you guys could have gone too!! But in return and in the spirit of the holidays im sharing this media with all of you guys! Enjoy!
